Marin 9 to 25 Workgroups

Workgroups are multi-stakeholder committees created to ensure progress is made on specific collective impact projects.  All are welcome to join!

   

Youth Visioning Workgroup

The Youth Visioning Workgroup did not meet in January. At the next meeting, we will hear presentations from the Marin County Youth Commission and the Marin 9 to 25 Social Health Network, and will continue to incorporate youth perspectives in Marin 9 to 25 initiatives. The next meeting will take place on Tuesday, February 1 from 4-5pm.

   

Social Health Network Workgroup

The Social Health Network Workgroup did not meet in January. At the next meeting, the workgroup will incorporate feedback from the Youth Visioning Workgroup and finalize principles for determining considerations around health, wellness and social services efforts to expand referrals and access to services in Marin. The next meeting will take place on Monday, February 14 from 4-5pm.

   

Payer and Funder Workgroup

The Payer and Funder Workgroup met on January 12 and heard from Amanda Lasik and Stacy Anderson from Blue Shield California, who presented on the Blue Sky initiative and other wellness programs. You can view the slides from the presentation hereThe next Payer and Funder Workgroup meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 9 from 4-5pm.

Youth Voices

Marin 9 to 25 is highlighting news and youth voices that are addressing youth needs and programs in Marin County. Please send submissions to info@marin9to25.org so that we can amplify this work.

11 Resolutions You Can Make to the Planet This Year (Isabelle Stavsky, The Voice) In the spirit of bettering our actions, here are 11 New Year’s Resolutions that you can make to our planet this upcoming year.

AWHS introduces new upperclassmen academy, “Team” (Isabella Nash, The Pitch) As a new AWHS academy, Team will serve as a new option for students who enjoy the outdoors and experiential-based learning, while fostering leadership qualities in the process.

Clothing drive makes sustainable shopping EACy for students (Claire Silva, Redwood Bark) The EAC is dedicated to educating the community on environmental issues and providing opportunities to alter unsustainable lifestyles. 

Fruit-ful community organization founded by two Marin teens yields sweet results (Isabella Nash, The Pitch) Collecting and donating fruits, Carrie and Jessie both notice the difference they have made within their own community and feel the impact on themselves as well.

Setting a Better Standard for Gender Representation in Fashion and Media (Elizabeth Fox, Off the Leash) I believe that despite what the general public has to say, people should be free to express themselves however they please. It shouldn’t matter what anyone else says, as long as you stay true to yourself.

RxSafe Marin is seeking youth volunteers to attend our Youth Action Team (YAT) and Community Based Prevention (CBP) action team meetings. Opportunities for Youth

Champion Men's Zone (CMZ): Through the Center for Domestic Peace, this program is specifically tailored toward those that identify as young men. The program focuses on topics of healthy masculinity and domestic/dating violence prevention. This is an opportunity to earn volunteer hours and a stipend. 

The FIRE Foundry Program Clearing a Pathway to Sustainable Wage Careers in Fire & Civic Service: The Fire Foundry program’s objective is to establish a science and technology-savvy, community-oriented wildfire prevention workforce, by providing job training and skills development for underserved, underrepresented, and underfunded community members in Marin County and the surrounding Bay Area. The F.I.R.E. Foundry Program’s objective is to provide you a full-time position, support services, and the education needed for you to go down the path of a career in fire service. Apply here.

The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy & One Tam Collaborative is now accepting high school students for its summer youth program! We are looking for high school students interested in the environment and motivated to work in and explore the natural spaces around them. No past experience is necessary and we welcome enthusiasm! Upon completion of the program students will receive up to $380 a week for a total of $2300 educational award. Read more about the program and watch a short video of what we do.  Applications are due on February 27, 2022!

Seeking Marin 9 to 25 InternMarin 9 to 25 is looking for an intern that is interested in the well-being of fellow students across the County – physical, mentally, and socially -- AND is interested in getting involved with a start-up collective that involves community leaders, youth, county staff and others. A great way to get a bigger picture of what’s happening in Marin and work on project management, leadership, and communication skills! Funding for this position is also available.

Seeking Mental Health Youth Action Team Intern: Intern with Marin County’s Suicide Prevention Collaboration and the Board of Supervisors Intern team to work on these important projects! This opportunity is for youth ages 13-25 years old who are interested in spreading the word about mental health resources available to students, and in creating a campaign where students can share their ideas about wellness and what gives them hope. 

Seeking Student Clubs and Organization to Write Caring Cards in Marin! The Caring Card initiative is a youth led suicide prevention and health campaign designed to promote safety and wellbeing for those in distress. We are looking for student groups/organizations that would like to participate in handwriting cards on an ongoing basis.  

SF Collaborative Against Human Trafficking Teen Poster Contest for all middle and high school youth in the bay area, and specifically for our Marin County students, through February 10. MFA In Creating Writing Hosting Free Online Events: Dominican University of California's low residency MFA in Creative Writing program invites the public to attend its spring 2022 series of virtual retreats and workshops that will highlight the program’s supportive, creative environment across the genres of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, and narrative medicine.

Marin County Office of Education (MCOE) Wellness website! Marin County schools believe that wellness serves as the foundation for children and young adults to develop knowledge, understanding and skills to support their mental, emotional, social and physical well-being now and into the future. Ongoing activities centering on wellness help to create conditions that work to ensure schools provide healthy and safe environments that foster positive connections and strengthen resilience. Increasing Mental Health Support for Students Through Partnerships Between Managed Care Plans and Schools [VIDEO] (California Children's Trust) In this webinar, Alex Briscoe and Rachel Velcoff Hults, authors of the recently released School Mental Health 101: A Primer for Medi-Cal Managed Care Plans, along with school mental health experts and youth with lived expertise, shared insights and answers about partnering with Managed Care Plans (MCPs) to increase school-based youth mental health services.

Marin schools launch speakers bureau on diversity, career success (Marin Independent Journal) A new equity-driven speakers bureau is launching in Marin schools through the Marin County School/Law Enforcement Partnership.

New Medicaid Option Promotes Enhanced Mental Health, Substance Use Crisis Care (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services)  The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), is working with states to promote access to Medicaid services for people with mental health and substance use disorder (SUD) crises.

Huckleberry Youth Programs seeks Bilingual Psychotherapist/Clinical Social Worker to join a mental health team that provides assessment, brief intervention, individual and family counseling, care coordination, and groups, for adolescents and young adults.

Marin County Office of Education (MCOE) seeks an Assistant Project Consultant for Wellness Programming to support the development, implementation and sustainability of wellness activities supported by MCOE.

Join the Seneca Family of Agencies team to provide critical mental health services to children and families in Marin County. Our Wraparound program uses a collaborative team-based approach to support families in identifying their vision for themselves and organizing the right resources around them. Let's Talk Community Discussion Series: Let's Talk is a resource for parents and caregivers, centered around the idea that with a lot of solid science, and a lot of heart, we can support our youth as they navigate the tough stuff. The next discussion is entitled "Mental Health and Underage Substance Use". Wednesday, February 2 at 7pm (virtual)

Building Trust with Kids and Adolescents: There is no handbook to being a successful parent. Mistakes are bound to happen, but establishing trust with your child can help you continue to have a strong bond even after mistakes are made. Thursday, February 3 at 12pm (virtual) 

The Spahr Center's Community of Practice: LGBTQ+ Best Practices for Inclusive Schools: The goal of the Community of Practice is to provide guidance to school staff members on how to support LGBTQ+ students and create school environments free from discrimination and harassment. Celebrate the Cosmos with COM: College of Marin (COM) will be hosting two events in February to celebrate the cosmos, and the community is invited to join in on the celestial fun. The first is a Space Day event held at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Academy February 12. The second event, Space Night, takes place at COM’s Indian Valley Campus on February 26. Both events are free and open to the public (in person)

Navigating Difficult Conversations with Children and Adolescents: Having difficult conversations is challenging, but if they’re handled well, it can bring you closer together with your children. Wednesday, February 16 at 8am (virtual)
Talk Saves LivesTalk Saves Lives is a presentation that will cover what we know about this leading cause of death, the most up-to-date research on prevention, and what we can all do to fight suicide. Participants will learn the common risk factors for suicide, how to spot the warning signs in others, and how to keep ourselves, our loved ones and those in our community safe. Mental Health First Aid Training for Adults to Support YouthMental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges and teaches a 5- step action plan to offer initial help to people with signs and symptoms of a mental illness or in a crisis, and connect them with the appropriate professional, peer, social, or self-help care. Buckelew Programs Suicide Prevention Trainings: Register through Tim Lea at timl@buckelew.org. Held 3rd Wednesday monthly at 11am (virtual)

Marin Against Youth Abuse: We do prevention work and train youth to be peer counselors and Healthy Relationship Advocates. Students will receive a $30 per month stipend for their participation in the Zoom meetings and for doing prevention campaigns in their schools. Held online on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month at 4pm with some in-person activities for campaigns throughout the year

Thursday Night Family Support GroupWe are a group of clinical staff and family partners who offer time each week to provide support, guidance, and a safe place to share your stories, connect with others who are having similar experiences, and provide education and information that may be helpful as you navigate the complexities of behavioral health challenges.
