Does it Matter? DEI Language

Researchers at the Disability Employer Practices Rehabilitation Research and Training Center (RRTC) found that "it may matter to people with disabilities what DEI statements in job announcements say and where they are placed...DEI language placed at the top of the job advertisement was associated with a greater willingness to disclose, trust in the company, and a positive impression that the DEI statement predicted work life at the company."

Share Your Thoughts:  What Inequities Do Disabled People Face?

Everyone in the disability community is encouraged to submit comments to help "understand the full scope of inequities faced by disabled people and to identify gaps in our current knowledge. This information will steer the development of the Federal Evidence Agenda on Disability Equity, which will ultimately support the government in making data-informed policy decisions to advance equity in all areas—including health, employment, education and others—for people with disabilities." Deadline is July 15, 2024.

Government Updates Race and Ethnicity Data Collection Standards

Health Equity Journal has published a round table discussion, “Implications and Insights on Federal Revisions to Race and Ethnicity Collection", addressing newly revised race and ethnicity data collection standards from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). OBM has "expanded its race and ethnicity standards to capture historically excluded communities, which will now be visible in federal data collection. This expansion will better reflect the nation’s diversity and lead to more equitable distribution of resources as well as more targeted interventions."

Productivity and Burnout

In a recent article at Commonwealmagazine.org, Jonathan Malesic explains burnout as "a risk we incur because we work alongside other people and are subject to their needs and expectations. Workers do not burn out because of individual failings. They burn out because the cultural ideals they bring to work are not realized in their jobs. And often, the reality of work is one of unreasonable demands, inadequate reward, harassment, or unfairness. Because burnout is a social failing, we will only get past it if we reform how we work together."
