The new NOVELNY products for 24-25 that were announced in the May newsletter will be added to the database portals over the summer. NOVELNY access that authenticates via location is also linked on the SLS database page here. Please note that if you need to retrieve usage stats for any of the resources, we need to know whether you are using the NOVELNY website, a direct link, the portal, and/or ClassLink for access.

DATABASE ACCESS FOR UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR:
| |
Over the summer, the SLS will update database access in “The Menu” and on your school’s database portal based on regional products and your district’s CoSer order. If your district would like to set up ClassLink or Google SSO for any products (or needs to change any authentication methods), please contact mgartland@boces.com. Meghan will work with the vendors and your tech departments to get that set up if desired. Please contact mgartland@boces.com if you would like to schedule a meeting about your online resources and/or would like to customize your school’s database portal.

We are very excited to announce a new feature in Sora called Read to Me! With this feature, students can select a word, phrase, sentence, or paragraph to be read aloud to them. When students open their next ebook in Sora, the message below will appear for them:
| |
|
Once text is highlighted, students will find the Read to Me feature in the definition and annotation section. Students are able to customize playback speed and volume to fit their unique needs. Additionally, students can have their defined words read aloud to them on their Sora home page.
| |
|
Read to Me is a free, safe, and built-in Sora feature that is available to all students at your schools. Share this how-to video and this Sora Help article with your fellow educators to help spread the word.

The School Library System mentoring program is focused on librarians in the first few years of their career but all are welcome. Please contact mgartland@boces.com if you are in need of a mentor for 24-25, know of a new librarian in your district who will need a mentor, or would like to volunteer as a mentor. There are three in-person group meetings throughout the course of the school year plus additional meetings in mentoring teams as needed. This program is meant to enhance and not replace any in-district mentoring.
